Final Rites

wahoo! natapos na ang University of the Philippines Volleyball Club (UPVC) application process ko. Mem na ako. Akala ko di na ako matatanggap dahil may pagka-delinquente akong applicant. Pero binigay ko naamn ang kaya kong ibigay (tulad ng pagpapaganda ng sigsheet as usual ahah) yun nga lang syempre kulang.

Kung pwede lang i-share dito ang initiation nila ay i-shashare ko ko kaya lang GAGANTI pa ako next time! hahaha

Masaya. Parang UPSCA may processing ang bawat gawain at hindi wala wala lang. Astig. Basta. Buti na lang tapos na siya. May punto kasi na malapit na ako umayaw, dahil down na down na ako. Di ko nga alam bakit di ako umiyak hahaha. Hay.

HINT: Lahat ng elemento ng earth ay na sa final rites ng UPVC--apoy, tubig, hagin, lupa, at kung anu ano pa. hehehe.

FIRST PUBLIC STORYTELLING

My first ever public storytelling with ALITAPTAP STORYTELLERS PHILIPPINES! It was a volunteer thing but who cares?! It wasn't a booklaunch in powerbooks or sumtin but it was way better. I love storytelling to KIDS. It's fun and gives you that nice feeling of being able to somehow teach kids (this time streetkids). I don't care if i dont get paid for storytelling forever, I will still be a good storyteller. I WILL!

I even met Kuya BDJIE of batibot. SUper nice with a great sense of humor. He even promised to give us a workshop on storyellin.



NICE NICE. We did a chamber telling of ang Binibining Tumalo sa Mahal na Hari.

super cool. It was in an art exhibit/street party on Galleria Duemila in Pasay City.Daming foreigners, writers, some tv personalities like Robin da Rosa and a couple of other known people. Then thr street kids near the big houses were invited to the party where free street food were available--from hotdogs, squidballs, popcorn, chocolait, corn, mangoes, buko pandan and gulaman. DAMI!. Kinda great actually.



Im learning so much from the expwerts of storytelling. I promise to hone whatever skills I have in this art. At least sobrang napatawa ko naman ynug mga bata in playing the DATU in the said story. COOL.

It was an art exhibit so it was like a cocktail party thus we, the storytellers (including kuya BOdjie) were SO SO underdressed for the event. Still, we made the children laugh and gave them a good time than the other performers haha!

Warts and Storytelling

Got my warts on my face cauterized plus my killoids in my chest from skin asthma injected earlier. But before the cauterizing, the doctor had to anaethesia on my face then taped over the warts as a sort of marker. Hahah i looked funny. Tapes on my faces. hahaha

I forgot to blog my small achievement this week--
My classmates in children's literature voted me as the best storyteller in class so I get to be sponsored by the Department of Reading to the storytelling workshop this coming weekend--an event i have been anticipating and excited about for over a month now. Wahoo!!!

Plus, my Teaching in the early grades professor texted me and it seems like i will be the next student assitant of the department. Wahoo again!. The department head, Dr. Pado will be talking to me tomorrow. hmmmm... what about?

Weird hair cut

After our field work in bio 1 where we conducted several interviews in a school and under the Tuliahan bridge in Faiorview about the polluted tuilaan river, went straight to the gym then afterwards had my hair cut in Index Salon.

This is when i entered a wierd conversation.

Weird, the hairdresser after asking about my school, course, and what not siddenly talked about his valuesed teacher back in high school who was very good with all the awards and stuff but suddenly raped someone. Bothering and quite tragic, really. A liitle bit more and I would have freaked out. hehehehe. Weird.
Natakot tuloy ako, ganun ba talaga? Nakakabaliw ba o nakakawalang perspektibo ang pagtuturo?

Scary.

Anyways, as i told that wierd hairdresser, I will be a teacher beacuse I really want to be a teacher. that's that.

A long update

It has been a while since I posted a decent blog entry. So, here goes what things i did over the past week:

My Lil Sis' Debut

Held at Cecile's restaurant's cue room, it was a gathering where family, relatives, friends, classmates, schoolmates and choirmates came to eat hahahaha (so was my intention!).

With the 70's theme, there were dance, songs, and instrument playing numbers for my lil sis (who isn't lil anymore) which i'm pretty sure she really appreciated.

I can't imagine that me and my sister are almost past the teenage years. I can still imagine that day when the word "debut" was but a word in my vocabulary, without realizing what it really is all about, now its my sister having hers. (sighs).

Changes yet again.

Anyways, here are 5 cool things about her debut:

1. Food was, of course, great
2. Close family and friends came--the ususal 18 candles, 18, roses, and 18 wishes were very intimate and personalized by my sister ( i really liked the 18 wishes part where my sis introduced each of her good friends)
3. I didn't piok in my song number for my lil sis (angel by sarah machlachlan). haha. Imagine the confidence i had to sing in front of music majors!
4. The number and dances were like SOP and ASAP combined. Fun!
5. Met her dormates and classmates (whom she really loves so much) so now whenever she tells stories about them, i woulnd't have to imagine vague faces.

hay... i guess we do grow up.

DEMO Teaching at UPIS

After weeks of prepartation (including 5 revisions of our lesson plan: LP and days ofr visual aid prep), I finally had my first ever demo teaching at the UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILPPINES INTEGRATED SCHOOL (UPIS) in the kinder level section sampaguita under teach Yvette.

Equipped with my 2 sems worth of knowledge from EDTEG 101 and 102, i struggled to keep them listening and focused on whatever it is we were teaching by applying the things i've learned. And as it is always, theory is way different from practice.

It was really hard. The first hour came as okay, with me starting off with a poem Five Little Monkeys then later telling them the story of our LP entitled Five Little Monkeys with Nothing to Do and so on. But when the second hour entered, slikes! They turned into rowdy little tykes!

I even had to get some sort of angry with them (but not really) trying my best to assert my authoriy over them which was really hard.

Watching 3 Performances All in One Day

2 recitals @ St. Scho's St. Cecilia's auditorium where my sister performed. We (ate Mean and I) then stayed for the second show to wacth my sister's friends whom we met at her debut.

She was as usual great--very confident, composed, relaxed. And as always, she closed her eyes while preforming, feelt her song and just hit her notes right--diggin' it.

NICE!

Then @ 7:30 pm went with Koro Stigmatino to watch the Ateneo College Glee club @ the Philamlife theater (where our MD is a guest member). Kinda cool. Great perfoamance but was a bit dragging for it was a straight LISTEN-TO-US-SING show. Wala lang, they sang. ehheeh. But they sounded great!

Had a late dinner in Kimono sumtin in blue wave, Macapagal Av.. Ordered Oyakudon which tasted great but was at a not- a-student-friendly price. My savings got depleted. Hehehe

Black Valentines

What was supposed to be a red-shirt day for our ORG, turned to a black shirt day for me. I intentionally wore black today. Hahahaha. Yet, with clear shampoo's revolutionizing of black as the new red, i guess i didn't really make a statement.

I left UP right after class, ignoring every fratman-giving-roses-to-ladies-moments, went to grab a bite (chicken Hodog rice mix and 3 pieces of siomai) near my GYM, spent 2 and and a half hours at the gym (where there were only three of us working out that i almost asked them what they were doing there for i imagined i'll be all alone haha), bought a strawberry cream chupa chups (my fave), rode a jeep in the passenger's seat, closed my eyes and felt the wind on my face.

This was valentines for me.

Funny. hehe. I went to hear mass then confessed during my lunch break earlier so i came in 15 minutes late for my EDLR 101 class (which was very unusual for me). Suddenly my classmates sang the BIRTHDAY song while teach greeted me. Kakagulat. Yun pala ate Mhira, a friend and orgmate, told them. What was funnier was that teach told me that as a gift, she wouldn't note me late. How cool could things get?!

Had dinner sa Tempura Japanes Grill kanina sa SM Southmall Foodstrip ( a trying hard strip of bars and restos hahaha)n with my mom, dad, bro, and cousin (too bad my sister's still in her dorm.) Enjoyed the food with them as usual. I really love them. Hay... would never wnat to disappoint you to the point I'll keep everything to myself ( i guess that's the way i was made)

Week's summary

Week's summary:

-My TITO migrated ti New Zealand last tuesday. Hay, changes yet again--really hate them. Di na lalu kumpleto ang De la Paz, clan. We had dinner last sunday as some sort of despedida.
-was so surprised that I was one of the 10 students out of 59 who passed the bio 1 exam. Kinda weird actually.

-surprisingly, the exam in PI100 (the subject i soooo wanted to drop) was quite reasonable and wasn't like hell. I think i did pretty ok, so that's that.

-applied for membership in UPVC (University of the Philippines Volleyball Club) last Wednesday. We played, got pre-oriented, and was warned that we are up for intimidation, bullying and verbal abuse. Hay. So different from UPSCA. Hope I finish the app process. Masaya kasi maglaro ng Vball. Got my thumb sprained nga pala from a forceful joust at the net. I had it X-rayed and it turned out to be ok. All's well I guess.

Nice match against Tsonga whose now Ranked 18. He sure played well but his lack of maturity kinda pulled him down, especially with Nole's serves and winners. NICE!

Anyways, good times always has its end. With the Asutralian Open 2008 wrapped up, it's back to reality for me-- no more late night game replays, no more australian open website checking, no more game predictions, no more nervewrecks for the player your rooting for, hay...

As aI said, back to reality...

Exorcism and Djokovic

Yesterday, exorcist Fr. Syquia came to our org's (UPSCA) Alternative Classrooom Learning Experience (ACLE). Cool... Daming nagpuntang tao.

Was fortunate to have read his book a year ago so i understood things even better. Nice.
Anyways, i guess exorcism is an evidence that Catholicism isn't just a religion people made up, it contains Divine truths that GOD himself revealed to us. Well, im not saying the people in the church (like the priests) are perfect, but it's not a reason to debunk the entire religion.

Favorite Trivia bits:

CHOCO cake is one of the most common gayuma people use--leading to many cases of possesion according to FR. Syquia. So, sugar is not the only reason why it's bad, the risk of of being possesed is another one. Haha.

Saying the words "tabi-tabi po" actually empowers the elementals. Plus, saying these words shows that we do not have full faith in GOD. Instead, why not pray the Our Father or Apostle's Creed or any prayer for that matter.

French Driving

Got a free ride this AM. Our french neighbor gave me and my uncle a ride dropping us off at Buendia MRT station. It was quite a fun ride with all the stories and jokes he and my uncle were cracking. Plus, i got to see how a french man drives in our country--basically, he was very pissed with undeducated drivers. He was outraged by some drivers that he was speaking in french (i have a feeling some of thenm wer frenc curses hahaha)

Anyways, it was my first time to ride the MRT from the buendia station which was quite cool since i have always imagined that station to be a SUBWAY station in a different country. Hahaha. Me and my imagination.

Then, on my way home, I caught up with a varsity orgmate who was really pressured as thier event (decathlon) is on the 7th of February already--which means he is on strict diet, sleep and training routine. He was quite funny to look at actually since his face spelled PRESSURE and NERVEWRECK hahaha. Well, that's two of my friends preparing for their meet--the other one being Til who is a tennis player. I wish i tried out for varsity back in first year. I guess i'll simply have to settle for UP Volleyball Club whose apps orientation would be tomorow afternoon. Excited ba ako? Hope it would be a fun app process.

DJOKOVIC has now entered the QF of the Australian open so I still have one bet left in the games. hahhaaha

Tennis Weekend

Australian Open weekend for me.

Woohoo! Since last year's Serena vs Sharapova match, I have been excited to watch the Australian open again--which i believe is where underdogs really challenge the the seeded players.

Last year, Serena (ranked 81) beat Sharapova (ranked 2 before becoming number 1)

Last night, for my all-alone-with-food-friday-night TV session, Andy Roddick (ranked 6) was defeated in five sets by World's number 29 HKohlschreiber, despite Andy's 42 aces. It was quite a game--very exhilirating, daming deuce at tiebreaks, challenges, breakpoints at kung anu-ano pa. So fun to watch. Imagine 3.42 hours total game play. Nice!

Then this afternoon, i watched FEDERER almost losing to rank 49, Tipsarevic who really gave him a tough match--imagine another 5 setter, 3 tie break game. Cool! I wish Federer lost though, para naman battleof the underdogs. hehehehe.

Anyways, im still rooting for Kohlschreiber and Djokovic, i really hope either one of them ends up in the final 2.

Tandem Storytelling

I and Czar interpreted the book Pikpakbum at Tiktaktok, ang magkapatid na laging nagaaway in front of our classmates, professor and two semi-pro storytellers, which was kinda nerve-wrecking and cool at the same time.

I guess we did pretty fine for two storyteller newbies

I kinda enjoyed it actually.

Wish I can attend a storytellers' workshop this coming summer because i'm simply falling in-love with tis particular art.

Orgmates are somewhat pushing me to run for Formation Director for Applicants (FDA).
A part of me wants to but a bigger chunk of me just won't:

1. I'm not sure if I'm up for more responsibilities
2. I'm in a pit and I can't get out of it.

Failed to Drop

EDSC 126

Had our class at NISMED (National Institute for Science and Mathematics Edcuation Development), a few buildings away from the College of Educ. The lab-classroom was really nice, it was similar to those lab-classrooms of Japan--well-lit with big windows, spacious, and simply conducive to learning.

We were presented with materials which the institute has been developing to teach Math in the elementary grades. Cool maipulatives! Syempre, kahit late ako, ang kulit ko pa rin dahil na-excite ako sa mga laruan hahaha. Really, I can't stop the kid in me, a reason why i'm really enjoying my course right now.

Tried to drop a subject earlier (PI100) but the professor told me to at least try to take the exam which won;t happen until next week. Well, i really wanted to restart the subject for a more in-depth understanding of the topics but I guess it isn't a good reasonto drop.

Anyways, it was my first time to TOUCH and get hold of a dropping slip (the blue form).
Nakakahiya pala siyang ilabas, nagtitinginan lahat ng tao (well, maybe it was just me being paranoid hahaha)

Storytelling

Yesterday, Saturday. 2 hours of sleep. Woke up at 5 am to a dark, gloomy, rainy morning. Then, rushed to school for our 8 am reporting in PI 100 (which i sooo want to drop). At around 11 am, sprinted to the Educ building to attend the storytelling workshop which also started at 8 am. When I arrived, they were already practicing the fisrt part of story telling--introducing of the book:

1. Greeting: "magandang umaga"

2. Introducing of one's self: "Ako si kuya JM"

3. Motivating question

4. Title of the book

5. Author and Illustrator

I kinda sucked at first, with the speaker commenting that I was so tense that my chest and shoulders were so stiff. Plus, my voice did not sound natural, as if i was trying to make it big.

In the pm, we performed exercises to get rid of self-consciousness (which I am full with) which includes body distortions, concentration exercises and mirror imaging. I guess it was really effective since by the the time we have to deliver the entire story, i did quite fine:

Hahaha, it was fun.

I usually go to my aunt's house to storytell to my young cousins. I can;t wait to use the things i've learned from this workshop.

Despite only 2 hours of sleep, Saturday has been quite a nice day (",).

Hide and Seek

We squirted paint.
We played hide and seek.

Cool day. It started out with us squirting paint on pieces of paper as part of our classmate's microteaching in EDTEG 102 on ART.

Then, in the afternoon, we played hide and seek at my EDR 121 (children's lit) class. We got to hide in the entire Educ building. As punsihment for those who came in late and for those whose group presentation was kind of unclear, they were the ones who were IT. Haha! I won. I got to receive 5 pieces of jelly ace. What was kind of funny though was that when I decided nobody's will ever going to find me (I hid at the open cloister, behind the auditorium. haha) i went back to the classroom just to find all of them already there, listening to Tecah Portia's new lesson. Haha. At least I won.

Like every day, today ended with ideas generated on my long way home (mostly on the MRT ride):

1. I soooo want to have a boarding house again so that I could join the UP Volleyball Club and UP Singing Ambassadors.

2. I have just finished collecting the papers for shifting. Now, all i have to do is write a letter of intent.

3. I am really considering dropping PI 100 (rizal studies) beacuse aside from it is eating so much of my time, the professor is plainly evil--imagine laughing at someone dying. Weird. Too much for my below sea-level consciousness. But just in case, I would be taking the subject under her again. I'm just not ready right now.

Blah blah blah.
