Great people I met last 2007

I have heaps of problems. The only reason I am alive is that I draw life points from people I meet and from friends I have (plus God's grace of course). I take hints from them on how to face life. As i have promised, these are 10 of the greatest peeps I met last year, whose hints i'll be using my entire life.

♀ Ms. Blogalit. This down-to-earth Oblation scholar (top 50 UPCAT passers) is positively addicted to blog. With her use of the middle (neutral) register of english plus her writing style, reading her blog is like reading a hero's alter-ego's thoughts. Why? Cause in our tambayan, this miss is quite reserve and is always composed, with but a few words to speak ( yet, behind all that I'm really sure she simply is thinking, procesing whatever is happening around her) but when you read her blog it's like a different person altogether (persons pala. Daming character hehehe)--very verbose, quirky, enthusiastic, clumsy, great, profound person. Parang blog literature.

Why her? She taught me to improve my grammar and blogging skills. Her blog is saving me from being selfish by proving that there are other lives other than mine happening in this world. She can easily turn ordinary, everyday stuff to extraordinarily interesting bits. Bottomline, through her blog she inspires by providing you a good read on a daily basis--well, almost daily.

♀Ms. Green. This environmentalist will amaze you on how she applies whtever it is she is learning. From trivias such as the number in ketchup sachets indicating the sweetness and sourness of it to perfume making, she won't fail to start interesting and witty conversations. Suwerte niya haha.

Why her? her being pressured by people we know seems pissing to me, but not to her. She isn't affected by what other people think for she knows what it is she want and "loves." She can keep up with jokes that I thinks are way over the line already. She always keeps her cool. A very friendly person, start a conversation with her and you'll sure be surprised of what's behind her smiles, giggles and her pretty eyes. She reinforced in me the concept of accumulated learning, applying what I've learned from the very start of my course up to now in everyday stuff.

♀Ms. Superior. This hopeless romantic with a superior IQ (AA lang ako hehehe) is one of the few ladies I met who isn't ashamed of her faith as a Catholic. With her nice eyes and smile plus a great life attitude, I'm really wondering why she still doesn't have a BF or sumtin.

Why her? She is teaching me how to: be appreciative and thankful to God for whatever I have, be a risk-taker for life is about risks, and just be myself without caring about what other people say. Plus, her outright and logical (not the stupid kind) "mushiness" is proof of how deep she is an individual. Nice INTRApersonal skills. HAHA.

♀ Ms. Sharapova. This UP tennis varsity player debunked my hasty generalization of what varsity people are all about--lazy and "who cares"? Despite her grueling training and pressuring competitions, she really is studying well, not taking her lessons and requirements for granted. Plus, she is such a team player when it comes to group reports and activities--never leaving groupmates on their own.

Why her? She is inspiring me to give my best in everything I am doing. She is proof that studies are not reason to forget about extra-curricular activities and vice versa.

♀Ms. Big Momma. She is this psychologist who always has this giant bubble around her and that you enter it whenever you're near her. Oh, i forgot, the bubble contains all kinds of happiness in the world. Not that she is 100 % happy, but she is full of positive thoughts. Plus her smile and chubby cheeks won't fail to make you smile yourself.

Why her? She is so confident despite people teasing her for her "voluptuous" body. She is a true friend who is always ready to listen. The good thing is, despite her being a psychologist she won't treat/make you feel as if you're a "subject" or a "patient" like what some psych majors do. She is goal-oriented and really manages her time well (despite UPSCA. hehe). Won't be surprised if she gets admitted to UP Manila's Med program

♀Ms. Heart. A responsible, stern person by day, a jolly, hopeless romantic by night. hehehehe. She knows what she wants and will give her best to get what she wants. A very friendly person, she will never fail to text you quotes that will make you smile. She will also drain from you all the skills and potentials you have for you to realize you have them. Plus, she is a WYD 08 deligate. Cool huh?

Why her? She taught me resposibility by example. She taught me to snap out of my immaturity and to face challenges by NOT running away from them. She held on to the potentials I have but am scared to share.

♂Mr. Timid. An expert optimist, a real family-son-brother person, a love-relationship-courting pro, a subtle theologian, an interesting writer, and a jack-of-all-trades, should I say more?

Why him? A real big bro, a responsible person and what not, he taught me: to start that connection my Father and I seem not to have and to value the father-son relationship, to act more like a big bro to my sibs, to learn to focus, and to accept responsibilities. He even taught me the 101s of courting and dating. The all-around complete bloke. Astig. Unfrotunately, Mr. Timid translates to Mr. Torpe. haha.

♂Mr. Opus. A conservative, logical Catholic, passionate theologian, a serious genius-diligent-lazyhater engineer, and a crazy dancer/singer/orgmate, this person will isnpire you to take a stand in life's zillions of dilemmas. He is one who knows what he believes in and will fight for it. He never is in the gray area especially when it comes to Catholicism, and will surely reprimand you if you are a cafeteria Catholic.

Why him? He will always help you find answers to questions when it comes to faith. An expert Angel's advocate, he can prove to you that there is a GOD and that HE works in every small thing, from sleeping to courting (wink.wink). Plus, he believes in the concept of a philosophical friend (which I believe is similar to Saint Aelred's "true friend")-- a friend whom you can share your life with (specially struggles, trials and dilemas).

♂Uncle Muscles. My uncle, actually. Introducing me to gym training, he taught me how to be confident with myself--not being bothered and intimidated by other gym trainers (translating to other people), doing my own thing. Then, he inspired me to opt for the healthy lifestyle (e.g. eating veggies and avoiding alcohol).

Why him? aside from the fact that he is a good dad to my cousin, he taught me: disicipline (through proper diet and gym training), and how to get acquainted with different kinds of people, not limiting myself to those I am comfortble with, getting out of my comfort zone basically.

♂Bro. Four-Ears-and-a-Heart. He became my Spiritual director who taught me a more serious prayer. He gave me a hug which felt like God embracing me. He taught me to listen to my emotions as if God is speaking through them, and to not always rely on reason and logic.

Why him? Despite my failure to heed most of his teachings, he listened to my thoughts and did not give me that judging look. He thought me to relax and feel God's presence and to just hold on to him through prayer. Though he is four-eyed (haha), it is as if he is four-eared for he really listens. God's man, really.

10 people I would like to be (mejo lang hehehe) hahahaha. Cool and great simple persons. Ayan. Sige palakihin ang ulo. hahaha. Seriously, at least your 100% certain you were able to change at least one person's life in you lifetime. Nice to know, right?

2007 Blooh-Blahs

2007: My year of extremes

Yup. This year has been one heck of a ride. Extreme downs and ups Whoa! Never thought I'd coem out alive. Haha.

From the "not happening" of my wish for my 18th bday ( a wish i made back when I was 10 years old) to my drinking of 6 beer mugs of iced tea (sugar. bad. bad.) out of spite for God's not willing for things to happen, to 4 reprimands directly coming from our college secretary, to becoming an atheist for 3 days, hay, this has really been a year.

In simple words, this has been the year where in for the first time in history, my plans in life have been shattered to oblivion. I'm the person who plans life ahead. Believe me, i hate it when things don't go my way hahaha. Kasi pinaghahandaan ko ang mga bagay-bagay. I hate surprises, what more changes.

The thing is, specially during the midyear after the streak of bad bad experiences, so many wonderful things happened:

1. Started going to the gym (up to now, 7 months na!)
2. Went to 2 Summer camps (YFC, PYM where I met nice people)
3. Became a "real" lector and commentator sa parish
4. Became a dedicated pollwatcher (Started at 6 am ended at 11 pm) for the PPCRV. Even got into arguments with older and paid watchers (hahaha so proud (",))
5. Joined a cool choir, the best a parish could ever have ahaha.
6. Finally started with the course I really like but have been denying it my entire life, and am SO in love with right now-- EDUC--Bachelor of Elementary Education Major in Teaching in the Early Grades (BEed TEG)
7. Got cable this year (ahhaaha)
8. reconnected with old friends
9. Got music sheets I really want
10. And most importantly met NEW, GREAT, INSPIRING people.

Who are they? That would be my next entry
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Colonel Sanders goes to Brooklyn

Late last night, after singing in the 6:30 PM mass, went straight to the KORO house for Ate Grace's dinner treat. We ordered 2 boxes of Brooklyn's Pizza and 2 KFC bucket meals. Ang tindi. The most carbs I ate all in one night for 7 months now. To hell with calories and carbs. Nothing beats great tasting food (not good cause it not healthy hehheheh) all for free. Thanks 'te Grace.
Had a meeting with the MD and the President afterwards.

Also watched the TYRA BANKS show. The topic of which was on detecting homosexuality scientifically. Heck. Homosexuality na naman. I have been studying this topic for so long now, both theologically and scientifically. Nothing was new execpt for the hair growth patterns:

galing sa puyo:
Clockwise--male dominant
Counter-clockwise--more inclined to femininity.

Whatever. It feels bad that sometimes people focus so much on a person's sexual orientation that they forget all the good in that person. Who cares if a person is gay? i'm not saying I'm for homosexual genital acts, 'cause Im not (specifically beacuse the Catholic Doctrines says so). I am actullay trying to discover this for myself.

To my best bud whose gay: Dude, just hang on with your struggles. We both know God gave you that challenge for a reason despite the whole world judging you and despite the homosexual revolution of today. I know you are going to stick wtih the LORD. Promise tol, dito lang ako.

Annual Overnights

29 December 2007 (2:30 AM-10)

After practicing up to 2:30 in the morning with the KORO, I got home to see a couple of friends with my bro and sis watching DVDs cozily tucked in the sofa bed we placed as some sort of hangout in our preschool. Unfortunately, my eyes were drooping so badly that after a midnight snack I fell asleep in a split sec. Sayang.
In the AM, I cooked breakfast for them which we ate while watching memento mori-- a dramatic love story between two ladies with poor attempts of scarying whoever will be watching it. Totally did not enjoy it.

VAN mishap

Everyone has his firsts.
So do I. I had my first car mishap yesterday morning. After driving around the village to confirm caroling places for later, I attempted to park the car pass a narrow gate to somewhat impress my dad with my narrow-pass driving skills. Too bad I ended dissapointing him.
What's worse was that I already heard that I hit the gate, but i panicked and forced the van to move anyway. hay. In desperation, I tried wiping the orange scracthes away but to no avail obviously. Hay. And then I saw my dad's face :c ...

How bad was it? see for yourself.

Christmas '07

Christmas '07
__________
As shown in the picture, I gave my three young cousins--James, John Paul and CJ--a box ofcolored chalk as a Chritsmas present. AStig. Having learned from my major that we should opt for toys that promote creativity, toys which are open-ended (many ways to play with them), I decided to give them Crayola colored chalk. Natuwa talaga sila. After convincing my aunt to allow my cousins to use the garage floor as a canvass/"paper", we filled it with drawings and scribbles that were something new to my cousins. Cool. I was successful in drawing them away from the computer games they were playing with before i came. I'm quite happy that I'm applying what I'm learning in early Childhood education.
___________
Pasko na pala. After early dawn masses, so-late carolings and tiangge raids, Christmas parties, choir duties, an asthma attack after three years and what not, Christmas has come and I wasn't prepared for the Lord's Bday. Bad. Bad.
Hay... dON'T WANNA THINK ABOUT THINGS THOUGH!
Sige na.
Christmas naman e Give myself a break please.
Maawa naman ako sa sarili ko.
Merry Christmas!
Sorry Lord, nahihirapan talaga ako. Baka naman tinatamad lang ako lumaban?

Larangan ng Pagtakas at Pag-iwas

Balik koro...

sapagkat...

May kasaysayan kang pangangalagaan
May pagkakakilanlan kang dapat protektahan

2 busy-humiliating-entertaining days

6 December 2007

I damaged a house.
Litterally.
I was in the attic of our choirmate's house looking for the Christmas tree to be put up when poof...the floor (which is the ceiling of the master's bedroom) gave way. Luckily, my reflexes worked and saved me from the crash. Kahit na. Nakakahiya.

Not one of my proudest moments.
Yet, I find it a comedic scene. Haha.
Sorry po talaga tita.

7 December 2007
EDTEG 102:

We surprised our Professor (Teach Diaz) with a mini birthday presentation for her--complete with a skit, dance, pseudo-cake and greetings--, just to find out that her birthday wasn't until the 5th of January. Hahaha. Nakakahiya na naman. Nevertheless, she said she was really touched and surprised (surprise nga naman, kasi di naman niya birthday. hahaha).

Then, our topic for the day was about toys. How cool could that get?--types of toys and what not. Teach brought samples of toys and we were asked to play with each of them. And among all the toys, this is my favorite:

Modeled by Ei

This is an example of a divergent toy where there is NO one way of playing with it, rather you can be creative and imagine ways on how it can be manipulated. Cool huh?

EDR 121 (children's lit):

Imagine having a children's book illustrator and a writer seating with us in the same classroom. Astig. We got them answering for us questions about their expertise (they are the ones seating by the door--Leo Alvarado and _________). It came as no surprise that they are issues between publishers, writers and illustrators that are quite sad to tell.
Then afterwards, naglaro pa kami ng pabitin at palayok game. Astig. Daming candies. Of course I didn't it them (read: sugar haha). Still, it was really fun.

That is my teacher holding the rope. Go teach!

_______________

I ended the day by watching the gala concert of my brother's school choir, SIGLO of the Bloomfield Academy (my elem alma mater), which was kinda cool. I really liked the song "ilong."

Xristos-mas

TRIVIA:
In the shortened form of Christmas XMAS, "X" stands for Xristos--the greek word for the Messiah, or Christ.
______________

Christmas! I simply can't wait.

I've been awake for a while now
You've got me feeling like a child now

I get the tinglies in a silly place

The Greatest 8 hours

I read a book. It started somewhat like this:

""A guy in cargo shorts, pink shirt and orange windbreaker meets up with a girl in white and green and brown top, and pants (describing how good she looks however, is impossible or I simply am clueless on what you call certain women’s apparel. Take your pick). After almost three years, they will be meeting again. Why just now? Ask the guy who is stupid, undecisive, a no-to-risk cowardice, and what not, he never even bothered checking on the girl up until now..."

I shut the book and didn't bother to turn on the next page.
Stupid guy, I thought.

After all these years SOMEONE finally agreed with me that guys should not ask permission if they are to court a lady. Heck, what's the point of courting when you are somewhat assured of a possible yes.

Kwentista balang araw

Weavers of Magic:
Manunulat, Illustrador, Mananalaysay

Kaya yan

Wala lang

Things I promise to do before the year ends:

1. review my English grammar and registers. I have beocome quite an informal writer and I do not wish to stay as such

2. master the art of "genuine" smile. People--orgmates, choirmates, friends, and family members--have been commenting, if not complaining, on my fake smile. Paano ba kasi? (for crying out loud people, 'ine' in genuine is pronounced like win and not like wine)

3. finish Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo with deep comprehension.

4. reach the halfway mark of the minimum number of children's books (40) we have to read for EDR 121. Lots of fun!

5. strengthen my left arm

6. read 5 full length books (yup I know that's a small number, but i have tons of readings in educ hahaha)

7. blah blah blah
wala lang uli magawa...
inaantok na ako...

NHI

Kanina, nagtungo ako sa National Historical Institute (NHI) sa T.M. Kalaw, Ermita, Maynila.

Guilty. tsk. tsk. tsk.

Big Bad Wolf

"Friendship is the paradigm of love"
-Fr. JBoy, CSC sportsfest
11 Nov 2007

Di pa rin ako enrolled
bukas kaya?
Anu kayang mangyayari?

Para sa Assignment namin, nalungkot ako sa The True story of the Three Little Pigs.
Misunderstood lang naman pala yung wolf.
Parang ako.
hahahaha.
Ang totoong nangyari...
(from wikipedia)
"The wolf justifies his journeys to the little pigs' houses as needing to ask for some sugar, his "huffing and puffing" as him having a cold and "sneeze[ing] a big sneeze", and his eating of the pigs as not letting good meat go to waste, since the pigs die in the sneeze anyway. At the very end of the book, it is revealed that the wolf has been telling the whole story from prison."

Kawawang Big Bad Wolf

First Day

EDTEG 102 (8:30-10)
Play and Other Physical Actvities in the Learning Process

We formed a circle and then were asked one by one what types of play we were fond of when we were still kids

I answered:
1. mataya-taya-- running game where there's an 'IT' chasing after everyone else
2. titser-titseran--a role play where I get to be a teacher giving lessons to my friends and younger siblings hahaha
3. matchbox--my all-time favorite toy. Like Hotwheels, this is a brand of small cars which i have by the hundreds. I use them to make my own 'busy intersection' and traffic flows.

Yup. I know it sounds immature, even for me.

EDR 121 (4-5:30)
Children's Literature

We were asked what our favorite childrens' story is
I asnwered:

Rumplestiltskin because it was one of the few stories where the main character wasn't a princess or a prince. Which is kinda cool because i like weird things cause I'm weird hehehe
Plus, I really like to imagine the woods where Rumplestiltskin can be found. Syempre dahil wala kasi kaminmg probinsya, so anything woody and tree-ish is a good place for me.

What's cool is that we are tasked to annotate/read/relish/enjoy 40 chidlren's books. Imagine, being graded for what i enjoy doing. Hahaha. How cool could that get?

What's even cooler is that our assignment was to know the true story of the Three Little Pigs.

Anyways

18 unists na ako Thank God.
A couple of lines and some smiles then I'm ready to enrol.
I have been really emo (as in emotional and not the vague music genre) this past sembreak so i'm really excited about the new sem where I could channel allt hese things to harwork and hopefully 6 unos. HAHA!
I hate dealing with emotions. They suck.
